Artist Statement
I paint women, landscapes, florals and abstracts in a fluid representational style that vacillates between impressionist, expressionist and allusive.
I see beauty in everything and strength in diversity, so I paint to illuminate those things. I find inspiration in the ocean, nature, landscapes and people. My iPhone stores scores of reference photos that enable me to incubate ideas and turn “what is” into “what ifs”.
I have little interest in the photorealistic reproduction of what already exists beautifully in the world. I want my paintings to bring joy or a smile, or elicit a new train of thought and consideration. I want to shift the paradigm and illustrate my subjects from a new perspective. I like to paint in layers, accentuate textures and use a variety of media, knives, brushes, hotel key cards and my fingers.
